Festival showcases everday art | Arts & Culture
The Kennett Alliance for the Arts (KAFTA) is hosting "Fall into Arts," a two-day arts festival on Sept. 10-11 in downtown Kennett, Mo.
The Alliance is a Kennett-based umbrella organization, which was formed in June 2011 by the CottonBoll Artist League, the SEMO Little Theater Group, and the Friends of Music Society. Its purpose is to promote all art forms, visual as well as performing arts. By hosting the "Fall into Arts" festival, it will help raise awareness of the influence of art in everyday life, its importance to the area community, and its contribution to the cultural heritage.
The festival will showcase the arts in a variety of media, including music, visual arts, street performances, art cars, photography, and crafts.
There will also be a vintage photography exhibit, food and refreshments.
The event includes a photography competition with $1,400 awarded in prize money. The popular Presbyterian Bazaar will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Scott Myatt providing music for people waiting for the doors to open.
The Dunklin County Museum will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. On display will be a Bible printed in 1777 and brought to Dunklin County in 1848. Three other vintage Bibles and religious cards will also be on display.
The festival will kick off Saturday at 9:00 a.m. with a "Boogie for Breakfast" at the SEMO Little Theater. The art show and sale will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Some of the music performers include Scott Myatt, Steve Davis, Sons of the Western Bootheel, Larry Norred, Dirt Road Mojo, and Southeast Steel Drums.
There will be piano recitals at the SEMO Little Theater at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and an "All Star" jam session at 7:00 pm. There will also be an outdoor performance of "The Proposal," a short humorous play. The time for the play to be announced. Food and drink vendors will be available for refreshments.
