Farmers out thousands after copper thieves strike

Many Region 8 farmers haven’t even started planting this year, but some are already out thousands of dollars.

According to a news release from Captain Ryan Holder of the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Office, thieves have struck at two different farms recently, stealing multiple spans of copper.

Several spans of pivot wiring was stolen from a farm just outside of Caruthersville within the last two weeks.  Two spans were stolen from a farm south of Portageville.

Holder says the thieves have cost the farmers thousands in damages and stolen copper.

Sheriff Tommy Greenwell is asking all citizens to contact his office at (573) 333-4101 or call 911 if they see anything alarming or suspicious vehicles in their area.
