Update: Heated argument ends with man charged with arson | Crime
An argument between a woman and her boyfriend got a little too heated.
Not only were police called to their home, so was the fire department.
Around 11 p.m. Monday officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety were called to a domestic dispute in the 500-block of Matthews Street.
According to Captain James McMillen, the couple was arguing when Kenneth L. Davis, 29, flipped over the bed and tried to set the apartment on fire.
When his 27-year-old girlfriend tried to stop him, McMillen said Davis pushed her down.
During the physical confrontation a blanket caught fire.
When the woman tried to take the burning blanket out of the home Davis pushed her, according to McMillen.
He said when the woman fell out of the door she dropped the blanket, setting the apartment on fire.
Firefighters managed to knock out the flames, but not before the apartment sustained “heavy damage.”
Davis, who left the scene, was later located by DPS and arrested.
He was charged with arson-first degree, domestic assault-second degree and felonious restraint. He is being held on a $2,500 cash-only bond.
The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries to her arm during the fight.
