3 arrested after shooting leaves man paralyzed | Crime
Three men are in jail, accused in a home burglary and shooting that left a man paralyzed below the waist.
The shooting happened early Monday morning in the 800-block of Mary Street.
According to an email from Captain Jim McMillen of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, around 1:15 a.m. officers were dispatched to the home where they found the victim lying near the back door of his residence.
The 35-year-old man told officers the suspects had kicked in his back door and shot him.
The bullet struck the victim in the back and hit his spine, leaving him paralyzed, McMillen said.
Two days later in the hospital the victim awoke and reportedly named Devante “Tae” McClinton as one of his attackers. He told police McClinton shot him during the struggle.
Later that day officers arrested McClinton, who was wanted on two outstanding warrants for robbery and burglary, following a short foot chase.
Late Thursday afternoon police arrested two more men as accomplices in the crime: Maurice “Lil Nolan” Hunt, 17, and Shaquille “Kilo” Sherrod, 19, both of Sikeston.
All three men are charged with first degree assault, burglary and armed criminal action. Hunt and Sherrod are being held in lieu of $100,000 cash-only bond. McClinton’s bond was set at $153,000 cash-only.
