Bicyclist killed in crash, driver charged | Crime

A 28-year-old man faces manslaughter charges after police say he struck and killed a bicyclist with his pickup truck.

The crash happened at 9:35 p.m. on Route M, two miles south of Poplar Bluff.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 30-year-old Joseph W. Wright of Poplar bluff was riding his bike in the road when he was struck from behind by a 2011 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Mitchell D. McDaniel, also of Poplar Bluff.

Wright was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Troopers say McDaniel was intoxicated at the time of the crash.  He was charged with involuntary manslaughter and placed on a 24-hour hold at Butler County Jail.
