Police: Home invasion suspect may have shot himself | Crime
Caruthersville police are looking for a gunman who may have shot himself during a home invasion.
According to Chief Tony L. Jones, around 9 p.m. Thursday a man wearing a ski mask forced his way into a residence in the 1400-block of Vest Avenue.
The man pointed a loaded handgun at the victims and demanded money.
Chief Jones said while one of the victims knocked the gunman’s arm down, another threw a chair at the man’s face. Witnesses told police the man then bent over and began firing shots before running from the home.
Residents told police they thought the man had shot himself, possibly in the stomach, because they saw blood dropping on the floor.
Police searched the area for the suspect, but could not find him. Officers also called area hospitals, but were told no one had sought treatment for a gunshot wound.
None of the residents was injured.
