Burglary suspect arrested following police chase, crash

Pemiscot County sheriff’s investigators were able to clear several recent burglaries with the arrest of one man, according to Sheriff Tommy Greenwell.

On Tuesday night, deputies arrested 19-year-old Justin Robert Brimhall following a police chase that ended when he crashed a stolen minivan.

According to Sheriff Greenwell, Brimhall is suspected of breaking into two homes in the Braggadocio area on Monday night and stealing a cellphone, watches, collectible coins and assorted change.

On Tuesday, another home outside Pascola was burglarized after a brick was thrown through a window.

Later that evening, while patrolling in the Deering community, deputies reportedly spotted Brimhall driving a white minivan that had been stolen Monday night from Hayti.

When deputies tried to stop the van, it sped away on State Highway J.  Deputies chased the van, which reached speeds of 100 miles an hour.

The chase ended when the van struck several state highway signs and crashed into a ditch.  Brimhall jumped out of the van and ran into a rice field where deputies managed to catch and arrest him, Greenwell said.

According to Sheriff Greenwell, “Brimhall cooperated with authorities and a majority of the property stolen since Monday was recovered.”

Brimhall is charged with three counts of burglary-second degree, felony stealing, tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting /interfering with arrest for a felony.

His bond was set at $125,000.
