CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) - U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson will survey the levee construction project at Birds Point Wednesday to view progress on the effort to replace flood protection along the Mississippi River.
"Now that contracts have been assigned for the remaining construction phases of the project, the people of Southeast Missouri deserve rapid progress on the effort there. The goal is to replace the original levels of flood protection so we can give the people who live and work in and near the Floodway the peace of mind they had before disaster struck last year. We may never get back what has been lost in the last year and a half – measured in terms of homes, churches, businesses, agriculture and an entire community – but we can restore the security of flood protection to make those things possible in the future," Emerson said.
