Woman airlifted to The MED following big rig crash

A woman was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when her big rig crossed the median of Interstate 55 in the Missouri Bootheel and slammed into a ditch.

The crash happened at 4:45 p.m. near the 9.4 mile marker in Pemiscot County.

Investigators with the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported 54-year-old Ann Roth of Emerson, Iowa, was northbound when her 1996 International Eagle ran off the left side of the road.  The tractor-trailer then crossed the median and the southbound lanes before striking an embankment.  The truck then crossed the outer road before coming to a rest in a nearby field.

Roth, who was not wearing a seat belt, was airlifted to the Elvis Presley Trauma Center (The MED) in Memphis with serious injuries.
