3 women hospitalized following wrecks on icy roads

A Bootheel Missouri woman suffered serious injuries when her car slid on an icy road and overturned.

The crash happened at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 55, six miles south of Steele.

According to a crash report filed by Corporal M.M. Jones of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 54-year-old Shirley J. Burse was northbound when she lost control of her 1996 Chevy S-10 pickup truck on the slick roadway.  The truck ran off the left side of the road, struck a guard rail and overturned.

Burse was taken by ambulance to Great River Medical Center in Blytheville with serious injuries.

Corporal Jones said Burse was wearing her seat belt.  The truck was totaled.

Icy roads also played a role in another crash in Pemiscot County.

Trooper D. DeJournett said 34-year-old Laura E. Whitfield of Kennett was traveling west on U.S. Highway 412, two miles west of Hayti,  when her 2006 Ford van slid on a patch of ice.  The van ran off of the left side of the road and overturned.

Whitfield and her passenger, 33-year-old Emily G. Parker of Kennett, were both taken to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti with moderate injuries.

The van was totaled.
