House fire claims life of Bootheel woman | News

A Bootheel Missouri woman died Monday night when fire swept through her home.
Around 11:36 p.m. Sikeston Department of Public Safety officers were called to a house fire in the 300-block of East Gladys.
After extinguishing the flames, Fire Division officers discovered the body of a 56-year-old woman. The name of the victim was not released.
According to a press release from Captain Jim McMillen of DPS, the State Fire Marshall was called to the scene. Investigators believe the fire started accidentally, although it is still under investigation.
Captain McMillen said at this point investigators have no reason to suspect foul play. He added the woman appeared to have died from smoke inhalation.
