Local artists "paws" for Art for Animals fundraiser

 

The third annual Art for Animals event ended on a high note April 26 at the Artfully Framed gallery.  Six winners were named and about $4,000 was raised for the Animal Welfare Alliance (AWA).

A $100 prize for the painting garnering the highest bid went to jewelry store owner Steve Whitworth for his painting of the old MOPAC/Amtrak station in Poplar Bluff.  The painting sold for $150.

The Pemiscot Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) would like to invite the public to its grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 4.

PAWS, formerly the Caruthersville Humane Society, is now located at 204 S. 4th St. in Hayti.

According to an email from Mindi Rice, PAWS public information officer, the grand opening “marks the start of a new beginning for the shelter.”

Dog and cat adoptions will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Paragould Rotary Club is going to the dogs.  Literally.

The organization will host its first-ever “Paws for a Cause” Dog Show on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Greene County Fairgrounds, 1108 Highway 49B in Paragould.

The nine categories include:  Best Tail Wagger, Cutest Puppy, Looks Most Like Owner, Most Macho, Most Beautiful, Most Talented, Best Kisser, Most Handsome and Best Costume.

Art auction to benefit Animal Welfare Alliance

 

Artfully Framed, 1939 North Westwood Blvd. in Poplar Bluff, is hosting an art show/silent auction to benefit the Animal Welfare Alliance.

The public is invited to attend the free opening reception from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, April 12, at the shop.

Enjoy wine, hors d’oeuvres and soft drinks while bidding on original 5x7 oil paintings by area artists.

The paintings will remain on display for two weeks until the free closing reception on Friday, April 26.

Caruthersville Humane Society now open in Hayti

 

The Caruthersville Humane Society is back in business.

It’s now doing business as Pemiscot Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), according to an email from Karol Wilcox, the board president.

On Monday Wilcox announced they had passed their inspection by the Missouri Department of Agriculture and have been licensed as an animal shelter.

Located at 204 South 4th St. in Hayti, the shelter is now open for adoptions.  Hours are Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
