The Williams Baptist College men's basketball team offers open tryouts each year for potential student-athletes.  The dates for 2013-14 tryouts are Friday, April 5, and Friday, April 12, at 2 p.m.

The players must arrive at WBC's Southerland-Mabee Center by 1:15 p.m. on the day of the tryout to participate.  They will need to bring basketball shoes and the appropriate clothing.

This week you have the chance to adopt a “living legend.”

The U.S. Department of Interior Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will offer about 40 wild horses to potential adopters on Friday and Saturday, February 22 and 23, at the Flickerwood Arena, 3027 Larch Lane in Jackson, MO.

The Saturday adoption will be on a first-come, first-served basis and will be held from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.  The adoption fee is $125 for animals less than 3 years of age and $25 for older animals.  Buddy animals can be adopted for $25.

Southeast Missouri police officers are doing their part to help local athletes compete in the Special Olympics.

And you can help, too.

On Monday, March 4, officers from across the area will take part in the first-ever Sikeston DPS Tip-A-Cop for Special Olympics.

From 4 until 10 that night officers will be waiting tables at the Pizza Inn, located at 1905 E. Malone in Sikeston.  All the tips they receive will go to the Special Olympics of Missouri.  Pizza Inn will also make a donation from all the sales made that evening.

The Arkansas State Athletics Department has announced a number of exciting and special in-game promotions and recognitions for Saturday's men's and women's basketball doubleheader with Florida Atlantic at the Convocation Center, which is set to begin with the women's contest at 5:06 p.m.

VA announces winners of 5k run/walk

VA announces winners of 5k run/walk

 

Recently the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff held its annual “Run for the Fallen” event. 

The 5k run and one-mile walk honors fallen soldiers, with proceeds going to the Veterans’ Recreation Fund.

The men’s division winner was Bailey Davidson and the women’s division winner was Allison Huskey.
